WHAT IS PILATES?

Pilates is beneficial for people of all ages and fitness levels. It is a low impact, potentially full body workout. Pilates is a system of core stability exercises designed to stretch, strengthen and balance the body. Classes last for approximately one hour. The instructor will take you through a series of exercises and movements with an emphasis on your core muscles – abdomen, back and buttocks. The results can be astonishing! What you can expect physically will be a total change in your body. Posture will improve, stomach and buttocks will become more toned, legs and arms will be leaner and your energy level will dramatically improve as well.

After 10 pilates sessions you will feel different. After 20 sessions you will look different and after 30 sessions you will have a new body! If you put the time into your workouts, we promise you results!

 
MATWORK

Matwork originally developed at the turn of the 20th Century by Joseph Pilates, who aimed to develop a perfect balance of the body and mind through the integration of body mechanics. Matwork classes consist of exercises performed on the floor which were designed to target and isolate muscles using the gravity of your own body. These exercises fluidly move your body ultimately building core strength, flexibility, awareness and control. Coupled with integrated breathing techniques Pilates is designed to aid in weight loss, postural imbalances, and alignment and also reduce stress, tension, and increasing your fitness level. The ultimate goal... a beautiful Pilates body. These classes also use the aid of props such as thera bands, magic circles, rollers, and fitness balls.

 
MATWORK 1

Introduces new students to the Pilates principals of breath, centering, control, precision and flowing movement, whilst also teaching students the essentials of Pilates. At this level a class will flow slowly with more time and care taken to explain each exercise.

Level: Beginners.

Benefits: Core strength building.

 
MATWORK 2

This class integrates more challenging exercises for the abdomen, back, waist and arms and legs. Classes will develop, adding elements that challenge your coordination, flexibility and strength.

Level: Intermediate.

Benefits: Toning and building strength in the core.

 
MATWORK 3

Mat work 3 is Joseph Pilates original mat work repertoire; his series of exercises were published in 1926 in the book “Return to life through contrology”. This advanced series is a strong and dynamic workout which not only isolates and strengthens but also helps to integrate the strength from one area of your body to the next, helping everything work synergistically. Suitable for advanced students only.

 
MATWORK STETCH

Matwork stretch incorporates the original Matwork repertoire to stretch the connective tissue, muscles, fascia and nerves in order to increase the overall flexibility of your body. By stretching the fabric which supports the mechanical processes of your body it tells the various components how to form and reform the tissue architecture in response to the tensions, compressions and movements we make in everyday life.

 
FIT PILATES

A challenging invigorating Mat class that combines elements from the Reformer and Matwork repertoire whilst also adding standing floor exercises with the ultimate goal to leave you feeling refreshed, vitalised and energised.

 
INTRODUCTION TO REFORMER

The reformer is one of the many machines invented by Joseph Pilates. This class teaches students about the anatomy of the reformer; how to change springs; adjust the foot bar and straps as well as some basic reformer exercises to get you going.

Level: Beginners.

Benefits: Toning and learning to use the reformer.

 
REFORMER 1

Students can continue to develop their knowledge of the reformer. Classes follow a structured format isolating regions of the body and strengthening using tensioned springs as resistance. The reformer, tones, strengths and helps create more flexibility.

Level: Beginner

Benefits: Toning, strengthening and flexibility

 
REFORMER 2

This class adds more challenging repertoire to continue to test your ability. Basic exercises are taught reversed or with different resistances to make the class more difficult.

Level: Intermediate.

Benefits: Full body toning.
