WHAT IS PILATES?

Pilates is beneficial for people of all ages and fitness levels. It is a low impact, potentially full body workout. Pilates is a system of core stability exercises designed to stretch, strengthen and balance the body. Classes last for approximately one hour. The instructor will take you through a series of exercises and movements with an emphasis on your core muscles – abdomen, back and buttocks. The results can be astonishing! What you can expect physically will be a total change in your body. Posture will improve, stomach and buttocks will become more toned, legs and arms will be leaner and your energy level will dramatically improve as well.

After 10 pilates sessions you will feel different. After 20 sessions you will look different and after 30 sessions you will have a new body! If you put the time into your workouts, we promise you results!

 
MATWORK

Matwork originally developed at the turn of the 20th Century by Joseph Pilates, who aimed to develop a perfect balance of the body and mind through the integration of body mechanics. Matwork classes consist of exercises performed on the floor which were designed to target and isolate muscles using the gravity of your own body. These exercises fluidly move your body ultimately building core strength, flexibility, awareness and control. Coupled with integrated breathing techniques Pilates is designed to aid in weight loss, postural imbalances, and alignment and also reduce stress, tension, and increasing your fitness level. The ultimate goal... a beautiful Pilates body. These classes also use the aid of props such as thera bands, magic circles, rollers, and fitness balls.

 
MATWORK STETCH

Matwork stretch incorporates the original Matwork repertoire to stretch the connective tissue, muscles, fascia and nerves in order to increase the overall flexibility of your body. By stretching the fabric which supports the mechanical processes of your body it tells the various components how to form and reform the tissue architecture in response to the tensions, compressions and movements we make in everyday life.

 
FIT PILATES

A challenging invigorating Mat class that combines elements from the Reformer and Matwork repertoire whilst also adding standing floor exercises with the ultimate goal to leave you feeling refreshed, vitalised and energised.

 
REFORMER

The Reformer is a unique piece of equipment, designed by Joseph Pilates to both aid and challenge the individual using resistance based exercises in the form of tensioned springs. The Reformer helps to isolate and develop specific muscle groups by varying the resistance applied throughout various movements. Since the reformer is a non-impact way to strengthen your body, It can assist clients that may not be able to gage in traditional training methods, whether due to age, injury, or just as a newcomer to fitness. On the other hand, the Reformer can add resistance to those who are already proficient in pilates and increase performance and strength in even the most avid athletes. The class consists of exercises that stabilize the core, mobilizes the joints and strengthen, stretch and lengthen the body.

 
REFORMER STRETCH

Like the Matwork stretch class this class also stretches the various tissue systems which help support and stabilise the body however the Reformer stretch class uses the reformer repertoire in order to achieve this goal with also the added bonus of increasing or decreasing the resistance applied to each stretch in order to make modify the intensity.

 
PRENATAL PILATES

Prenatal Pilates classes are an excellent way for moms-to-be to enjoy a more comfortable pregnancy and prepare the body for the delivery. Pilates and pregnancy go so well together because Pilates strengthens the entire body, focusing especially on the muscles which support the pelvis and spine which are used during labour. Varying between reformer and matwork repertoire it brings variety to any exercise program allowing mothers to be to delve into their bodies and re-discover the awareness needed to connect to peacefully transition through all trimesters of their pregnancy.
